Duas for forgiveness from Allah

Allah the Merciful teaches us how to repent to Him with the most beautiful of words in the Qur’an. Some of the duas and ways mentioned in the Qur’an seeking forgiveness from Allah Almighty are mentioned below:

–‘Lord, do not take us to task if we forget or make mistakes. Lord, do not burden us as You burdened those before us. Lord, do not burden us with more than we have strength to bear. Pardon us, forgive us, and have mercy on us. You are our Protector, so help us against the disbelievers.’ (2:286)

The last verse of Al Baqarah is an exemplary dua taught by Allah the Merciful to His creation bringing together all possible elements of sinning and one's shortcomings as one repents.

Lord, grant that I and my offspring may keep up the prayer. Our Lord, accept my request. Our Lord, forgive me, my parents, and the believers on the Day of Reckoning. (14:40-41)

Prophet Ibrahim (May Allah be pleased with him) has supplicated abundantly for forgiveness and repentance as is quoted in the Qur’an and one of his beautiful duas is mentioned above.

“They replied, ‘Our Lord, we have wronged our souls: if You do not forgive us and have mercy, we shall be lost.” (7:23)

The above mentioned dua is that of Adam and Eve (May Allah be pleased with them both) when they disobeyed Allah the Merciful by eating a fruit they were told not to. The dua beautifully implores Allah’s forgiveness exhibiting one's dependence on Allah the Merciful for success in this life and the hereafter.

The Most Excellent Names belong to God: use them to call on Him… [7:180]

Calling out to Allah the Merciful using His names mentioned in the Qur’an and Sunnah is one of the best ways of seeking forgiveness.

It should be noted that the Azkar of morning and evening serve as a great source of imploring Allah the Merciful’s forgiveness.

Allah the Merciful is Most Kind and Generous towards His creation. Whenever one commits a sin, he/she shouldn’t feel discouraged about Allah’s mercy. His mercy has no boundaries and He forgives His servants as many times His servant asks of Him. The key to a successful life in both abodes resides in abundance of seeking forgiveness for one's sins and keeping away from them thereafter.
