Lesson 15: The three levels of reciting the Qur’an

In this lesson we will know basic Information about the Quran

Such as :How many juz’ or Hezb in Quran ?

How many Quarter in each Juz’…..etc.

Then we will talk about the three levels of speed in reciting the Quran.

1-The first is called Tahqeeq التحقيق which is reading the Qur'an slowly and with serenity while pondering the meaning and observing the tajweed rules.

2- Second is called Hadr الحدر , and it is a swift method of reading the Qur'an with observation of the rules of tajweed. The reader then must be careful not to cut off the lengthened letters, and not to shorten the vowels to the point that the reading is not correct.

3-The third level of reading is called Tadweer التدوير It is reading at a medium level of speed between the two above levels, while preserving and observing the rules of tajweed.

Then the Tarteel will be applied to the 3 levels

Tarteel means reading as the Prophet (PBUH) used to recite and as he was ordered to by Allah. [wa rattil il-Qurana tarteela] (Muzzammil 4). The tafsir of this aya (according to ibn kahteer) is to recite the Qur’an slowly, making the letters clear because this is an assistance in understanding and pondering the meaning of the Qur’an. A related word is “Murattal”.

عندما سئل عن معنى قوله تعالى: "ورتل القرآن ترتيلا".
قال: الترتيل تجويد الحروف ومعرفة الوقوف

When asked about the meaning of Tarteel, Ali (Radhiallahu Anhu) replied, ‘It means that the Qur’an should be recited with Tajweed and with due observance to the rules of Waqf (pausing or stopping at the end of the verse).’
